Fresh corruption charges have today been slapped against 3 jailed former ministry of Public Service top officials in an attempt by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mike Chibita to recover 88bn shilling pension cash.
The trio includes former permanent Secretary, Jimmy Lwamafa, Principal Accountant Christopher Obey and director of research and development, Stephen Kunsa Kiwanuka. They have jointly been charged before the Anti-Corruption High Court Judge Lawrence Gidudu.
Prosecution says the said officials stole 88 billion shillings in unnecessary NSSF contributions of public servants well knowing that public service employees don’t contribute to the National Social Security Fund.
They have denied the charges. Justice Gidudu has fixed hearing of the case to commence 17th October. The judge has also rejected bail application by the accused and advised them to apply in the court of appeal if they so wished. He sent them back to Luzira prison till the hearing date.
