Bobi Wine Drags Ug-EC to court

Local artiste Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi commonly known as Bobi Wine has dragged the Electoral Commission to Commercial Court for allegedly infringing on his song titled Obululu Tebutwawula.

Kyagulanyi accuses the electoral body of unlawfully fitting portions and contents of his song into its advert which was released in both English and Luganda and played on FM stations and Televisions all over the country and neighboring countries via internet during the campaign period.

He adds that he discovered the infringement in 2015 and was done without his knowledge and consent and it was intended to benefit the Commission.

The singer, claims that as a result of the infringement his song has been pirated and plagarised and have lost value and cannot attract a sponsor for launching.

He further contends that he has suffered embarrassment and humiliation in his dealing with various stakeholder including government agencies and players who are no viewing him as a traitor.

He wants Court to declare that EC infringed on his copyright and privacy and order it to compensate him for investment in the composing, instrumenting, demo recording and recording rights in his song.

Court has now summoned EC to file defence with 15 days before the case is set for hearing.
