Makerere University has been compelled to extend the opening of the First Semester for the Academic Year 2015/2016 by one week to allow more time to solve the ongoing strike by the Non teaching staff across all public universities.
The extension has been reached during an emergency university council meeting chaired by Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem on Tuesday afternoon.
In a press statement released, the extension has been made to allow negotiations between the Government, Management of Public Universities and Non-teaching staff continue.
The First Semester for the Academic Year 2015/2016 has been extended by one (1) week and consequently:
The First Year students (freshers) who were scheduled to report on Saturday 15th August 2015 will report on Saturday 22nd August 2015.
