MUK students go on strike.

A strike broke out this morning at Makerere University  with students protesting the deadlines for  the payment of 100% tuition fees. The students  want all deadlines on tuition payment removed

They were expected to have cleared fees  by 5th October (today) as required by the University and  policy that students must have paid

tuition fees six weeks into the semester.

The students are demanding more time to pay tuition  fees.

The university administration last semester announced  it had deferred the 100 per cent tuition  payment policy to this semester as consultations  continued.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Ernest Okello Ogwang, however says that following consultations of an appeal  by the students to review the policy, that the  policy for Semester One of 2014/2015 will apply  for the Second Semester 2014/2015.

The administration has also strongly condemned today’s  strike.Police deployment remains tight at the  campus to contain the situation.
