Electoral Commission (EC) has set 3rd and 4th November as dates for nomination of presidential candidates.
The EC had initially set 5th and 6th October but postponed in order to cater for the amendments in the electoral laws.
Parliament passed the Presidential Elections Amendments Bill 2015 and the Parliamentary Elections Amendment bill 2o15 on Wednesday.
Some of the amendments are;
-presidential candidates do not get any facilitation from the Electoral Commission.
– A candidate to campaign in districts of his/her choice .
-Polling stations to open at 7am and close at 4pm
– The Presidential Elections Bill revised the nomination fees from Shs8m to Shs20m.
-Parliamentary aspirant nominations fees increased from Shs200, 000 to Shs3m.
EC chairperson, Badru Kigundu says the new laws will be implemented.
Kiggundu has called on presidential aspirants to
deliver the balance of nomination fees (shs12m) to the EC before nomination.
Campaigns for presidential candidates have been set from November 9 2015 to February 10 2016.
