The workers savings body National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has donated 70 million Uganda shillings towards the organization of this years NSSF-KAVC International volleyball tournament due this weekend in Kampala.
The NSSF-KAVC Tournament slated for Friday to Sunday (5-7 August) organized by Kampala Amateur Volleyball club will attract 7 teams from across the great lakes African region.
They include the host Uganda,Kenya,Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi, D.R.Congo, South Sudan among others.
The games will be played concurrently at Namboole Sports Complex, Makerere University Business School grounds (MUBS) and Lugogo Indoor stadium where Semi and finals will be held on Sunday 7, August this weekend.
The 70 million sponsorship was unveiled at a flashy function held in NSSF board room at Workers house attended by NSSF MD Richard Byarugaba and senior staff flanked by KAVC Vice President Ms. Diana Agaba and her other staff that made glamour at the hand over with their rhythmic hand claps.
According to Richard Byarugaba the Fund’s involvement in volleyball demonstrates that NSSF is committed to the development of sports talent in Uganda.
“We continue to sponsor this tournament because NSSF-KAVC International has helped improve the competitiveness of our Ugandan volleyball teams by offering local teams an opportunity to compete against the best in the region. Over the last 8 years, we have seen a talented group of players emerge and compete at the highest level,” he said.
“We are glad to associate with KAVC for this year’s edition of the tournament and more importantly to announce our sponsorship package of Shs70 million as we continue our partnership with KAVC and the volleyball fraternity in Uganda,” he added.
The sponsorship will go towards meeting technical requirements such as equipment, logistics, publicity for the tournament, and prize money for the winners and finalists.
With a huge smile display on her face, KAVC Vice President Ms. Diana Agaba said that the volleyball fraternity should expect a bigger and better organized tournament.
“As KAVC we are greatly indebted to NSSF for the sponsorship of this tournament over the last 8 years, which has grown to become Uganda’s biggest. We are grateful to this commitment to the game. International competitions like the NSSF-KAVC tournament enhance the competitiveness of our teams through exposure,” she said.
Last year Rwanda Revenue Authority won the women’s final while another Rwandan side INATEK took the men’s trophy.
The women’s line up has KCCA, Sport-S, Ndejje University, Nkumba University among others.
Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) founded 46 years ago is one of the leading premier sports clubs in Uganda and is affiliated to Uganda Volleyball Federation.
