South Sudan formally joins East African Community .

South Sudan has formally joined  the East African Community bringing the membership of the community to six Countries .

South Sudan noe joins Kenya , Uganda , Tanzania ,Rwanda and Burundi to become part of the regional intergration projects that have been subject  of discussion among member countries

South Sudan applied for EAC membership soon after gaining its independence from neighboring Sudan in 2011, the same year , the Community rejected the application of Khartoum, citing its poor democratic record , religious freedom and open gender discrimination .

The confirmation of South Sudan as a new member of the bloc was undertaken during he 17th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State held in Arusha , Tanzania Today .
