Parents and pupils from different schools across the country got stranded this morning as the teachers’ industrial action over unresolved salary issues kicked off.
On Thursday, the teachers, under the Uganda National Teacher’s Union, resolved to put down their tools after government failed to meet a salary increment it had promised them.
Some schools around Kampala and found that most of them had very few students around because the majority of the parents had not sent their children to school in anticipation of a strike.
The schools’ administrators say that they have no powers over the teachers’ decision to strike.
On Monday the teachers are expected to meet with the Prime minister to resolve the matter.
