Teachers meet government to resolve pay issues

Leaders of the Uganda National Teachers Union are in a closed meeting with the Prime minister and other government officials following a strike over their unmet demands.

The teachers want government to increase their salaries by 10% following an earlier promise made in 2011.

They are also against the education ministry’s move to handpick the Microfinance Support Centre to manage their Savings and Co-operative Societies funds worth Shs6.8 billion.

Earlier today, the Minister for Information and National Guidance Jim Muhwezi said they would try to convince the teachers to be considerate.
