Officials at the inter Religious Council of Uganda have taken a bold stand and summoned the bishop of West Ankole diocese Bishop Yona Mwesigwa Katoneene to substantiate reports that he openly asked his congregation to support president Yoweri kaguta Museveni to win the 2016 presidential elections.
On 26 August Bishop Yona Mwesigwa Katoneene mesmerized many when he turned political and handed over a stool and a spear to Museveni while in Bushenyi district and asked the congregation to support and pray for president Museveni to win the forth coming 2016 general elections.
According to the standing orders for conduct of religious leaders of all sects issued by the Inter Religious Council, the bishop acted erroneously.
Joshua Kitakule the secretary general of the Inter Religious Council of Uganda; Bishop Yona Mwesigwa will appear before the council disciplinary committee this September 29.
Bishop Yona will face the IRCU disciplinary board to which the Bishop of the church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali is a member.
However West Ankole diocese Bishop Yona Mwesigwa Katoneene might not be alone, last week the clergy at Bukalango prayed for president Museveni’s victory and another group of Born again pastors in Mukono prayed for the Water and Environment minister Ronald kibuule and president Museveni’s Victory
The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shahban Mubajje one of the Elders on the Inter religious Council of Elders says that such misguides society and might spread he trade.
“All political arrangements should be organized outside the church not in God’s temples, Just like a father you could have one child you love most among the many you have, but it is totally wrong and it will cause you trouble if you dare say that I love child “B” more than the others”
